UPDATE OF EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

Curriculum update (hereinafter - UTA)

The National Education Agency (hereinafter - NŠA) implements the project "Creation and implementation of digital educational content" financed by the European Social Fund, the purpose of which is to update the content of general education and ensure its effective implementation.

The annotation of the project states that "the constantly changing world, the challenges of globalization, changes in the labor market, problem solving becoming the driving force of education, discoveries, learning through research and the active participation of students in the process pose new challenges to the content of education. Therefore, taking into account the needs of society, the results of student achievements, innovations in pedagogic science and challenges to education, a change in the content of education is necessary.

The main and necessary directions, goals and principles of changes in educational content, development guidelines for a modern school are defined in strategic education documents: "Description of primary, basic and secondary education programs" and "Concept of a good school".

Why is educational content updated? Experience shows that the realities of world life change, that in many countries the content of education is updated every 10-12 years. In our country, the General Education Programs, which pedagogues are guided by when organizing and carrying out the education of students, were last updated in 2008. Practitioners notice that there is a mismatch between the current content and future needs, the educational content is overloaded, does not ensure social justice, there is no effective implementation of the educational content, and there is a lack of flexibility. Pupils' achievements are not improving, differences between separate groups of pupils are increasing: private schools / state, municipal schools; city/village; girls/boys; students from advantaged/disadvantaged social backgrounds. Therefore, in the future, we want to offer children educational programs that correspond to modern realities, to form the competences of the young generation that are needed in the twenty-first century. It is planned to update the educational content not on the principle of integration, but on the principle of inclusion in the educational process, so that children are seen with their needs and abilities, so that education becomes more flexible.

Main directions of renewable educational content:

  • To strengthen the development of personal qualities and values.

  • To create conditions for every student to achieve higher achievements by providing solid and sustainable foundations of knowledge.

The main principles of renewable educational content:

  • Competency-based education.

  • Correspondence to the child's developmental stages.

  • Interdisciplinary integration.

  • Integration of separate plug-ins.  

  • 30 percent of the curriculum is chosen by the teacher.
